Who Discovered America?

I remember in fifth grade I told my mother I learned that Christopher Columbus discovered America. She disagreed, she was taught in Norway that the Vikings, Lief Erikson and crew, discovered America. I have even heard that an Irish Monk discovered America.

Now the Chinese have a map to prove they discovered America!  I guess we have always been the land of discovery.
