Einstein Never Used Flash Cards
is one of my favorite books this season.
Over 20 years ago flash cards were the rage for babies, "Learn Baby Learn". My friend, a special ed teacher used to call it, "Burn out baby, burn out!"
These authors, who are child psychologists, talk about our "Road Runner" society that places too much value on early advancement. In this case, they talk about parents developing their child's IQ in the womb as an example of the insanity of our culture to get ahead.
I like the chapters on language instinct and reading development. They state that babies and preschool children are wired to learn on their own schedule.
This book is helpful for any parent, teacher, college or Montessori student.
